MASC 2024 Accommodation

We strongly recommend booking accommodation in York early as December is a popular time for families and tourists visiting the city for the Christmas Markets and other holiday festivities. A few suggestions are provided below, with approximate travel times and distances to the National STEM Learning Centre, for your convenience.

Franklin House (0.2 mi; <5-min walk – map)

Delegates can take advantage of special MASC 2024 conference bed & breakfast rates for a limited number of single (54) and double (8) ensuite rooms at Franklin House located on the University of York, West Campus, immediately adjacent to the main conference venue. Each room comes fully equipped with a TV, desk, storage and tea and coffee making facilities. Building and room access is via stairs or lift using a secure card system and the complex is monitored by University security. See Franklin House accessibility for more information. Free Wi-Fi is available via eduroam (using your University credentials) or via the public York CityConnect network. 

Check-in & check-out times: Card keys may be collected via coded lock box any time after 1400 and dropped off at any time in the red collection box upon check out. A secure luggage and coat check will be available for guests checking in on Day 1 of the conference.

Breakfast: Breakfast is included in B&B rates and will be served 0730–0900 each morning of the conference in Quarks Restaurant inside the National STEM Learning Centre.

Booking Franklin House: Rooms will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please book via their website or by emailing reception@stem.org.uk directly – citing Quotation Ref: 1617 and MASC 2024 – if you wish to reserve a single or double room, indicating for which nights (i.e., Sunday, December 15th and/or Monday, December 16th) and whether you have any specific accessibility requirements for Franklin House staff to consider. Any Franklin House bookings outside of these dates are subject to normal non-conference prices.

Other Accommodation Suggestions
There are many city centre hotels to choose from, each within easy access to public transportation. Advance booking is advised as York is a popular destination near the Christmas period.

  The Travelodge on Hull Road is within approximately 15 minutes walk to the University and main conference venue via a quiet residential area (Windmill Lane).
• Hotel Indigo York by IHG (1.2 mi; 25-min walk; 15–20 min by bus – map)
  Hotel Indigo is walkable to the University and main conference venue, but most conveniently accessible via bus (or car).
• Hampton by Hilton – York Piccadilly (1.3 mi; 30-min walk; 15-min by bus – map)
  The Hampton by Hilton at York Piccadilly is similarly walkable to the University and main conference venue, but most conveniently accessible via bus (or car).
• Travelodge – York Central (1.3 mi; 30-min walk; 18-min by bus – map)
  The Travelodge in York City Centre is similarly walkable to the University and main conference venue, but most conveniently accessible via bus (or car).
