Getting to Sheffield

Travel by Rail to Sheffield

The main railway station serving the University of Sheffield is Sheffield train station, about 1 mile from campus.  This station is served by CrossCountry, Northern, EMR and Transpennine Express and has excellent train connections to major UK cities, such as Manchester (50 min), Birmingham (1 h 15 min) and London (2 h). 

Travel by Air to Sheffield

The closest major international airports are Manchester (MAN) and Birmingham (BHX), with regular train links to Sheffield. Minor airports nearby are East Midlands Airport (EMA) (~50 miles away), which is accessible by taking the Skyline bus to East Midlands Parkway, followed by a direct train, and Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) (53 miles away), which requires a taxi to Leeds central followed by a direct train.

Travel by Car to Sheffield

Sheffield is conveniently located on the M1 motorway network and is within comfortable driving times from many parts of the UK. Sheffield city centre has a clean air zone, so be aware when driving into the centre, as charges may apply.

Parking on Campus
The university has only limited parking, which is restricted to permit holders. If it is necessary to drive when visiting the University, please consider using a park and ride site or one of the following car parks, which are located close-by:

NCP at Solly Street (a cheaper car park and under a 20 minute walk from the main campus)

Q park at Durham Road

Q Park at Rockingham Street

Getting to Campus from the Railway Station

By Tram: There is a convenient tram stop directly at the train station with links to the university. Take the Blue Route in the direction of Malin Bridge, and get off at University of Sheffield. The whole journey takes about 10 minutes.

By Foot: Sheffield is a very walkable city. You can get from the station to campus in about 25 minutes by foot.
