Getting to York

Travel by Rail
You can get to York from London in less than two hours or from Edinburgh in less than three hours with services from both LNER and Grand Central. There are direct services from Birmingham and the South West. TransPennine Express runs direct train services from Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle.
Travel by Air
The closest airports are Leeds/Bradford (LBA) and Humberside (HUY). Manchester airport (MAN) is a larger international hub that is connected to York by a direct 2-hour train journey.
Travel by Car
York is just 20 minutes from the M1/M62 motorway network and is within comfortable driving times from many parts of the UK. Alternatively, the Grimston Bar Park & Ride is closest with regular bus services (8, 10, X46, X47) dropping off near the University campus and National STEM Learning Centre.
Requesting a Virtual University Parking Permit
A limited number of on-site University parking permits will be available for delegates wishing to drive to the conference venues. We will survey all registered delegates in late November to finalise parking permit numbers and request vehicle registration details. All-day virtual parking permits allow registered vehicles to park in any University of York campus car parks on weekdays – no need to display and free parking on weekends. The car park nearest the National STEM Learning Centre is the Campus North Car Park (Zone 3.1) at the top of Siwards Way (via University Road). If possible, please indicate during registration if you would like to be considered for a parking permit to help with our planning.
Getting to Campus from the Railway Station & City Centre
By Bus: Several bus points are located immediately in front of the York Railway Station that will take you into the city and to the University campus. We recommend taking the pink U1/U2/U3 University campus buses (operated by First Buses) to campus, which run frequently every 10 minutes between the York Railway Station or Fishergate and the University of York, West Campus (total journey time of 20 minutes) with multiple stops throughout the City Centre. Bus fares can be paid conveniently by tapping on/off with a contractless debit/credit card. The ‘University Library’ stop is closest to the National STEM Learning Centre (5-min walk); alternatively, get off a stop earlier at ‘Wentworth Way’ and walk 7-min up the hill along Siwards Way. The National STEM Learning Centre will be at the end of the path. Campus buses offer free USB charging and Wi-Fi via the FirstBus network.
By Taxi: There is a taxi rank outside York Railway Station. Ask for the National STEM Learning Centre, York Medical School or the University of York’s Campus North Car Park. However, we suggest using public transport as the buses are straightforward and very reliable throughout the city.
