Getting to Milton Keynes
Travel by Rail to Milton Keynes
The main railway station serving Open University Walton Hall Campus is Central Milton Keynes Railway Station which is 4 miles from campus. This station is served by Avanti West Coast and London North Western Railway services. Train times to London vary between 35-60 minutes.
Travel by Air to Milton Keynes
The closest airports are Luton (LTN) and Birmingham (BHX). There is a regular bus service from Luton airport to Milton Keynes. There are regular trains from Birmingham airport to Milton Keynes Central Railway Station.
Travel by Car to Milton Keynes
The Open University is just 10 minutes from the M1 motorway network and is within comfortable driving times from many parts of the UK. For satellite navigation use MK7 6AA.
Parking on Campus
A limited amount of on-site University parking will be available for delegates wishing to drive to the conference venues. We will survey all registered delegates in early December to finalise parking required.
If you have access requirement that require parking close to the conference venue, please add this to the registration form and we can arrange a dedicated parking space.
Getting to Campus from the Railway Station & City Centre
By Bus: Several bus points are located immediately in front of Milton Keynes Central Railway Station that will take you into the city and to the University campus. During the morning and evening the Arriva Number 8 is the fastest direct bus service to campus (approx. 25 mins). The Arriva Loop service comes to campus throughout the day, however the journey time is longer (approx. 50 mins). Alternatively the Arriva Number 5 and Number 6 is a rapid service through the day and comes close to campus leaving around a 15 minute walk through Woughton park to the edge of campus.
By Bike: Milton Keynes has several bike share options available.
- Santander cycles cost approximately £1 for 30 mins (August 2025) and there are pick-up/drop-off station all across the city, including the University campus. https://www.santander.co.uk/personal/support/understanding-our-services/santander-cycles
- Dott bikes are part of the Santander cycle scheme but are power assisted. These are not widely available in the city at the moment (August 2025) and require a separate App to the above scheme. https://ridedott.com/locations/
- Lime bikes and scooters are power assisted vehicles that can be collected anywhere in the city. These cannot be brought onto campus but can be left around the main entrance. By Taxi: There is a taxi rank outside Milton Keynes Central Railway Station. Ask for the Open University.
